Planet Ant Holds two annual improv festivals

Twice a year The Planet Ant hosts an improv tournament. The winning troupe of this most coveted tournament in the Detroit area — receives their own show directed by a seasoned improv director.

Planet Ant’s 2012 Winter Colony Fest will take place at Planet Ant Theatre from Wednesday, January 25th, 2012 through Saturday, January 28th, 2012.
If enough improv troupes sign up, we will add Tuesday, January 24th to the schedule and a fourth finalist troupe on Saturday!

Improv troupes (not directly affiliated with Planet Ant) are eligible to compete. Previous winning troupes are non-eligible.

The finalists will be determined each night by audience vote from Wednesday, January 25th through Friday, January 27th. The finalist troupes will perform again on Saturday, January 28th for an audience that includes a panel of Planet Ant selected judges who will select the winner. The winning troupe will receive the “FABULOUS, FABULOUS PRIZE” of their own late night original show at Planet Ant running in July of 2012. They will be guided and directed by experienced Improv director and muliti-talented playwright, actor, musician and video artist Mikey Brown!

Mikey Brown co-authored and appeared in the critically acclaimed original musical comedies “Detroit Be Dammed: A Beaver’s Tale”, “A Very CednTeri Xmas”,  “Out of The Running” and “The Bannister’s Wholesome Family Fun Hour” at Planet Ant. He has also directed the YouTube web series “CednTeri” and the indie-feature movies “LITTERBUG” and “Garage: A Rock Saga”. By day, Mikey produces TV commercials and teaches video production to kids through the Y-arts program at the Boll YMCA in downtown Detroit.

SHOWS WILL BE ON THE FOLLOWING FRIDAY AND SATURDAY NIGHTS:
July 6, 7, 13, 14, 20 & 21, 2012
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU CAN COMMIT TO THESE NIGHTS PRIOR TO SIGNING UP.

Here’s all you need to sign up your troupe!

  1. Pick a time slot (along with a couple alternatives just in case)
  2. List the first and last names of all troupe members (Make sure they’re spelled right!)
  3. Include your phone number (Kept only for emergency contact)
  4. If you have a web site, include it also (We’ll link your listing to it!)

Then send it all email to Festival Coordinator Dave Davies at dave@planetant.com. Dave should respond to you shortly after it is received.

You will be the contact for your troupe so as new news arrives, be sure to let your troupe know.

There is a $20 non-refundable registration fee for each troupe payable the evening you perform.

It isn’t mandatory that individual performing troupe members pay the $5 admission fee to help us in our fund raising efforts but it is the only way to receive a voting ballot.
